Update on Gavin

Alison who is fostering Gavin has put on our facebook page:

Gavin has had his third bath today and his skin is soooo much better.Scabs all gone and fur is growing back :) He now loves to play with his favourite toys. Surprised himself yesterday by chasing his tail and then looking shocked when he caught it!!!!!

It's amazing what the appropriate veterinary treatment (thanks Donaldsons in Mirfield!) and a good diet and TLC can do!!

Thanks Alison and family - all at YRDR are appreciative!

Update on Gordon

Here are some new pictures of the lovely Gordon.

Paula says that he is doing really well - eating a good diet and filling out. He went jogging with Craig yesterday and slept for hours!!  Gordon loves playing with his ball and would chase it all day long!
Gordon has been neutered and is going to have his 2nd vaccination this week.
A big thank you to Paula and Craig - their TLC has worked wonders for this little fella!

Pooch Art

The pupils of Malsis School, Glusburn, North Yorkshire have been busy in the Art Department. They have very kindly donated their amazing artwork for the Homepage of our website. Over the coming months we will be showcasing the different pieces of art on the Dog Rescue Homepage. Thank you very much to all the pupils involved for your hard work.

Callum Driver of year 6 was the first pupil to complete his artwork. We are sure you'll all agree it looks fantastic.

GAVIN

Meet Gavin!!!
Gavin has been named after the Leeds dog warden that asked us to help him!!
Gavin has been so lucky that he has come along so soon after our appeal for a fosterer for Gordon.  We kept all the people's details who had offered to help a staffie with skin problems and promptly contacted Alison and her family to see if their offer still stood!!
This was a big ask as Gavin has severe demodectic mange - his skin is thickened, sore and bleeding in places.

This dog must have been in absolute agony when Gavin (2 legs!!) collected him!  But immediately we could see the 'specialness' that the dog warden had seen.  What a lovely affectionate little fella this is - he definitely deserved a second chance.  Again, like Gordon - he wouldn't have stood a chance of coming out of the stray kennels and he would also have become a statistic!

He is on antibiotics and Aludex baths - he is also having Dermacton cream applied to his hotspots to cool them down and relieve the itching and soreness.

He is not housetrained but thankfully Alison is not fazed by this!  He has met the resident cats without any great hitch so hopefully this will continue!

Gavin is 12 mths old at the most and is very calm for a young staffie!
This is one very special boy - and VERY lucky!!!

With huge thanks to Alison, Dan and Amy for allowing him into their home!  As you can see ... we have no worries!!!

Gavin will cost the rescue quite a lot to get him better as skin conditions are renowned for their expense!  We are committed to getting both Gavin and Gordon in perfect health - but if anyone reading this would like to donate towards their vet bills then you can do this through the website.

GORDON

Gordon is doing really well.  His skin is a lot better and the bath with Coatex shampoo has soothed his skin and his coat is shiny.  Paula is also applying Dermacton cream which is wonderful stuff for stopping the itch/scratch cycle, cooling hotspots, soothing irritated skin and promoting hair growth.  See www.aromesse.com
Gordon is enjoying his walks, playing with his toys and snoozing (and snoring!!) on the sofa!!  Now he is on a good diet his flatulence has subsided!!!!
Paula says that Gordon is so good they don't even know they have him.   He is well enough to be neutered which will be done on Friday.
