Here we go again ....... !!

We had another plea yesterday from the Leeds Dog Wardens to help a young staffie with severe mange.  They knew that he badly needed immediate treatment as he was in agony and nobody would want him if he went into kennels resulting in a miserable and painful 7 days and then no doubt put to sleep as another statistic.   So how could we say no?
This little guy is gorgeous!  He is only around 7 months old and we have called him Spencer.
He has demodectic mange and is sore all over - even the pads on his feet.  Even though he is so uncomfortable he is very friendly and affectionate - we can see exactly why they pleaded with us to save him!
We could only do this with the help of a fosterer - and Alison, Dan and Amy who fostered Gavin and nursed him back to full health said YES!!  They would foster him!!!  Phew!  This is a big commitment for them as Spencer needs weekly baths at the vets and lots of applications of creams and things several times a day!  We are eternally grateful to them for opening their home up to another mangey dog!!!!!
With the help of Donaldsons Vets in Mirfield and Dermacton cream from www.aromesse.com (magic cream!!) between us all we will get Spencer his good looks back and a full shiny coat!   In the meantime he has a selection of doggie coats to keep him warm since he is pretty bald!!
Spencer's treatment will not be cheap so if anyone has any good ideas for fundraising events (and better still wants to organise one!) - shout!!

We will keep you posted on Spencer's progress.

GREAT NEWS!!

Paula and Craig cannot bear to let Gordon go - so they are keeping him!!  That is fantastic news for us all - they have been brilliant with Gordon and got him back to good health and he looks great.  Thank you so much!

Poem: A Yorkshire Rose Dog by Sue Wolstenholme

A Yorkshire Rose Dog

I'm two years old and sitting
On a freezing concrete floor,
Caged and scared and waiting,
To be led out through that door,
Loaded up and taken
To a place where life will end,
And I never had the chance to be
A loyal and loving friend.

Since I was taken from my mother,
I've lived with fear and pain,
Beaten, kicked and underfed,
Left in the pouring rain,
I've never known a kind word,
A gentle hand upon my head,
No sense of being wanted,
I've lived my life in dread.

I can see the handle turning,
My life is done - so soon,
But wait! A smiling lady,
Has just entered the room,
She's kneeling down and saying
That I've nothing more to fear,
A kind and loving voice,
The sort I never thought I'd hear.

It seems there's someone waiting,
A place where I can stay,
'Till my forever person
Takes me home one day.
For now, I'm waiting for that time
While my trust in humans grows,
My life will be worth living,
A life saved by Yorkshire Rose.
